Connecting Xero & QuickBooks
Complyax integrates directly with Xero and QuickBooks Online via OAuth 2.0 to import client transaction ledgers during VAT reconciliation and management accounts commentary generation.
Per-Client Connections: Unlike firm-wide integrations, accounting software connections are configured individually for each client profile.
Connection Steps
To link a client’s bookkeeping account:
Open Client Profile
Navigate to the Clients Directory and click Manage Profile 🔌 next to the target client.
Select Provider
In the Integrations tab of the Client Management workspace, locate the options for Xero and QuickBooks. Click the Connect button next to the client’s accounting software.
Authenticate via OAuth
You will be redirected to the provider’s secure OAuth login page (Xero or QuickBooks). Log in using credentials that have access to the specific client’s organisation or company file.
Authorise Access
Select the correct organisation/company from the provider’s dropdown list and authorise Complyax to read accounting transaction ledgers.
Confirm Link
Once authorised, you will be redirected back to the Client Management workspace in Complyax. The connection status card will display a green Connected status along with the token expiration date.
Token Expiry and Re-authorisation
Accounting integrations use secure access tokens that expire periodically.
- Check Expiry — The expiration date is displayed on the integration status card and in the VAT MTD configuration panel.
- Reconnect Link — If a token expires, an amber Integration Expired banner appears on the VAT page. Click Reconnect Integration and re-authorise via OAuth using the steps above.
Changing Providers
If a client migrates to a different bookkeeping platform (e.g. from Xero to QuickBooks):
- Open the client’s profile in Clients > Manage Profile 🔌.
- Click Disconnect next to the active integration.
- Confirm the revocation of the access token.
- Click Connect next to the new accounting software provider and authorise the new link.
